Butterflies

Although I had every intention of spending some time today posting pictures from the Brooklyn Museum and Brooklyn Botanical Garden I got sidetracked by butterflies instead. Yesterday as I was walking along the Roanoke River in Salem I saw a bundle of butterflies just resting on a rock. As I went closer to explore and take some photos I must have disturbed them because they all took off and flew around me. I felt like I was in a Disney movie or something. They checked me out and after seeing I would cause them no harm they landed again along the banks of the river. It was a really unusual experience and I'm glad I got to capture some of it.

Even the ducks were amused.

  1. That must have been a great sight. There is one hiking trail that this time of year there are swarms of these types of butterflies. It is amazing.

  3. Beautiful pictures. I'm still drooling over your food shots from NY though. I really miss the great food from up there. I used to exhibit at shows all over NY and ate at the best diners ever. That homemade ricotta on seeded bread looks delicious. No, Roanoke doesn't serve Broccoli rabe or even Italian Wedding Soup...we need a first rate Italian restaurant to come to town..Olive Garden is ok but not the real thing.

  4. Cheryl...Olive Garden and Italian restaurant should not be said in the same sentence LOL! I've been trying to work on my cousin the chef to get his butt here so we could go into business together. Now I'm working on his roommate who is an amazing artist and potter who I know would love Roanoke's beauty.

  5. Thats so cool! I wish the misses liked the outdoors, took her to a wooden walkway park here in florida once there were a few spiders the size of her head which I thought were so cool But all she did was complain, She did the whole walkway though but never wants to go to any outdoor place I pick out ever again.

  6. Jimmy, that's crazy. Your area has so much natural beauty! What does she like to just stay in the air conditioning so her hair doesn't mess up? You can take the girl out of Brooklyn, but....LOL!!!
